The Esquilache Mutiny
The Esquilache Mutiny took place in Madrid in 1766, following a decree imposed by a minister of Charles III, who was of Italian origin. The decree forbade the wearing of long capes and wide-brimmed hats, on the grounds that they favoured the commissioning of crimes, since it was impossible to identify the offender.
