The War Of The Worlds by H.G. Wells
This is the unabridged text of the novel which was the prototype for all science fiction in which Earth is invaded by Martians. It was adapted to the radio in 1938 and caused panic among the listeners. Steven Spielberg directed a film adaptation in 2005 starring Tom Cruise. Students may compare different versions and find echoes of this book in a variety of media.
