The War Of The Worlds

This lesson is a study of multiple media adaptations and how technology can be deceptive. Students will compare the novel "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells, Orson Welles's 1938 radio broadcast and "The Night That Panicked America", which dramatizes the panic caused among Welles's listeners who thought an invasion from another planet was actually taking place in New Jersey. Among the discussion leads there are misinformation via the Internet, aliens, and social engineering (artificial selection of the strongest human beings). There is a vocabulary section with recorded pronunciation.
