Wave erosion

This series of images shows the demise of Jump-off Joe, a sea stack at Nye Beach, near Newport, Oregon. Sea stacks begin as part of a headland or sea cliff. Relentless pounding by waves erodes the softer, weaker parts of the rock first, leaving harder, more resistant rock behind. It took over 100 years to erode this sea stack to sand.
